finding it with basically every major nz media outlet now, but there’s so LITTLE accountability that criticism of their bias literally doesnt matter as they regularly, often fervently, amplify reactionary and rightwing groups while ignoring almost any impropriety. & the public therefore aren’t aware

has any outlet mentioned that Karen Chhour is implicated on the trust’s website yet? or are they continuing to run immense cover campaigns for the ACT Party even as criminals involved with the takeover attempt are revealed?

why did media even amplify the trust’s claims in the first place??

oh nz media is just doing first person missives without quote marks for the National Party now. Ludicrous?!

I guess they're taking the mouthpiece role VERY seriously

Why do platforms (Substack and Tiktok in this case) always pick the articles and videos I do the most research for to shadowban? (This and my David Seymour deep dive article)

It's demoralising y'know?

Did you know that Palestinians inspired a lot of Māori philosophy and protests from 1979 onwards? I write about it here #Maori

An analogy:

Either give people coke or water and they'll take it, But if you give people watered-down coke most of them would spit it out.

Labour to campaign on narrow capital gains tax, no wealth tax Labour has agreed to campaign on a tax covering just some property to help fund a limited number of free GP visits.

@chrishipkins.bsky.social solid policy, not bad. I expect it will help shift property investors into investing in business at least a little bit. I just do wish that Labour understood that you win the centre with messaging, better narrative, not with positioning #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Tuesday's Chorus: Where's the solar & batteries? And a proper CGT? 30% of dairy farmers in Southland & Otago still without power five days after wild winds flattened power poles; Locals surprised & farmers scramble for diesel generators; Labour goes for CGT-lite

Labour just went for CGT-lite. It won't raise much money & won’t change the incentives in our housing-market-with-bits-tacked-on economy. It’s focus-group-hugging performative politics. It tells low wage renters flying to Australia: not much will ever change. It says; ‘Fly my pretties. Fly’. #nzpol

Better than nothing but still completely milquetoast and disappointing

Would have preferred a wealth tax sold on the fact that it targets the super rich.

This will be painted as taxation on "hard working Kiwis" and Hipkins had better be prepared to defend it

It is weak from Hipkins but it lays the foundation down from Hipkins and Labour to kick off the 2026 campaign

Also gives room for the Greens and TPM to go full power on pushing wealth taxes

Let this be a lesson to both Aussie Labor and nz Labour:

Court the far right vote, and you will dissolve your base, who will utterly abandon you

This is true of all center left parties (hi NZ Labour). They don't actually want their own voters, they want their opponent's voters, who they perceive as being more valuable and more representative of the nation. They hate being beholden to women, POC and queers. They want the white man's vote.

Have either Luxon or Hipkins visited areas hit by extreme weather events the last couple days?

It seems pretty horrific, with a couple of towns reportedly about to run out of water if power isn't restored to water infrastructure soon. Feels like there should be more attention on this?

Hipkins’ overall favourability has softened slightly (net 0, down 4 points) but still far outperforms Luxon. Former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern remains the most popular political figure nationally, with a net +11.

Jacinda losing popular support was largely a figment of the media’s imagination.

It frustrates me when you critique white people or men and a white person or man chimes up and says "Not all white people" or "not all men" when you never said so.

It was meant to be a window, it's their own fault they're so close to it they see their reflection in it.

Oh so it's gonna end up the case that we're not just failing to uphold our responsibilities under the genocide convention - NZ government and industry may be directly, materially complicit in genocide.
