Ha. Dog duty.
Our sonβs getting married this fall and my wife Dee, a student of both politics and Project Runway, observed that wedding styles (like so much else) have returned us to the 1930s.
Very fascist-forward.
Anyone whoβs heard my RSC songs knows how influential Tom Lehrer was to me. My high school senior quote from his βFolk Song Armyβ recognized that Art β Comedy especially β is an act of resistance. Grateful to my parents for this album and proud to have passed the #LehrerLove on to my kids.

CBS cancelling Colbert? Cowardly bullshit.
CBS cancelling Colbert the same week as the new season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" drops on Paramount+? EVEN WORSE.

07.07.2025 16:00 β π 43 π 8 π¬ 0 π 0"Serious actors. No director. One rehearsal. In a bar." That's the Back Room Shakespeare Project's motto and it makes for a unique relationship between actor and audience that @austintichenor.bsky.social writes enhances the power of Shakespeare's work. Now on our blog: www.folger.edu/blogs/shakes...
03.07.2025 14:08 β π 3 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Oh look. As of today, I've now been performing with @reduced.bsky.social over half my life. Hey ho.

01.07.2025 21:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Love the Trojan Horse of the much more interesting discussion of R&J being buried in a "Is AI Bad?" piece. (OF COURSE IT'S FUCKING BAD.)
27.06.2025 15:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Loved @questlove.bsky.socialβs film SLY LIVES, especially when Shakespeare holds forth about THE BURDEN OF BLACK GENIUS. Bravo.

My friend Adrian Scarborough doubled as Point & a VERY old Justice Silence. In one of the best sight gags I've ever seen Wood broke up his line "Come on, come on, come on" with great pauses in between as Silence shuffled s l o w l y downstage while Wood & Gambon stood still and threw focus.
26.06.2025 20:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I saw Gambon as Falstaff in 2H4 at the National and he had a quiet, almost Steve Martin energy, especially in the soliloquies. Matthew Macfadyen played Hal and John Wood was Justice Shallow.
26.06.2025 19:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Me too, buddy! Come on over anytime!
25.06.2025 15:28 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was wild. Actors and audience alike got *inside* the play in a way only possibly in the close confines of the Hideout's back room. Sam Pearson was a powerful leader (onstage and off) and Gregory Linington a formidable Aufidius.
23.06.2025 15:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Like! (What can I say? Iβm a sucker for a compliment.)
22.06.2025 19:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This grim-visaged warrior actually got a few laughs in last Monday's CORIOLANUS by the Back Room Shakespeare Project, cut to a fleet & fierce 85 minutes by Sam Pearson (bloody C himself) and performed in Chicago's tiny Hideout tavern. #TheFaultDearBrutusIsNotInOurBars
22.06.2025 15:35 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Happy #Juneteenth! I first learned about Crispus Attucks, Mary McLeod Bethune, Shakespearean actor Ira Aldridge & many others in BLACK AND WHITE by "Wee Pals" cartoonist Morrie Turner. Published 1969 by Troubador Press (which my dad joined in the 70s), I have 1 copy left. Somebody publish it again!

Lovely to see THE WILDES by @louisbayard.bsky.social so prominently displayed in my local library, where it was recently (and unsurprisingly) a very popular book club pick!
