How Soon Will the Seas Rise? | Quanta Magazine
The uniquely vulnerable West Antarctic Ice Sheet holds enough water to raise global sea levels by 5 meters. But when that will happen β and how fast β is anything but settled.
I was interviewed for this great piece about sea level rise.
Solid reporting here on the scientific controversy, but I like that Evan ended with my bigger picture quote that a lot of the controversy doesn't really matter because by 2100, we will be talking about a radically different coastline.

ARCUS Monthly Report - August 2025
The NSF-funded Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS) will shut down at the end of Sept. ARCUS has been around since the late 80s; in recent years their staff had dwindled, and NSF said earlier this year that their grant would not be renewed. Another blow to polar science.

Trump seeks to end climate research at premier U.S. climate agency
White House aims to end NOAAβs research office; NASA also targeted
The world knows about climate change mostly because of great American researchers, and that work has been largely centered at NOAA.
Trump and Musk are now shutting down that brilliant work. They are contemptible, short-sighted, and sold out

My latest: The mass firings at NOAA can feel abstract. Here's what was lost at one research center -- the birthplace of climate modeling.
