This. Both familiarity AND incentives to invest in equipment. From an individual perspective, not owning a shovel as a homeowner makes much more sense in DC than in Chicago.

Tbh, if declaring bankruptcy could rid us of this absolutely terrible deal AND we could regain control of our streets for better transit planning, etc as well as get from under the $$ burden, seems like it’s not a terrible option. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fwiw, I do this in my own small way….in low enforcement situations, I forego meter and figure probability of ticket x cost of ticket over time is less than meter fees and appreciate that the fine goes to city instead of the terrible deal people.
