Other European countries, even if they did not directly colonise, made tons of money doing business with countries who did.

The capital that made the European industrial revolution and the rise of the modern bourgeoisie possible came from colonial trade, theft, and slavery.

Belgium's rubber industry (ever heard of Michelin?) was based on its especially brutal colonisation and enslavement of Congo. Denmark sold slave ships, Sweden was also involved in the slave trade.

Colonialism raised the stakes for all of Western Europe, even the countries who didn't have colonies
