While this absolutely sucks, we are going to see a lot more places implementing universal global age verification over this next year, because the number of states and countries legally requiring it has gotten to the point no one can keep up anymore.

Therein lies the flaw for this hope, because many legislators want this Big Brother level of control, so they won’t pass a law that penalizes data breaches severely enough to impact the flow of big bucks to their coffers from tech company lobbyists and donors.

The fact they're doing inferred behavioral age estimation and on-device native facial age estimation instead of requiring third-party verification with ID or biometrics is honestly better than a lot of places would, and I HATE that's a sentence I just typed but I did, sigh.

The patchwork worldwide legal framework resulting from the ungrounded moral panic over people under 18 using the internet has a lot of us making extremely unpleasant choices. The blame lies on the governments mandating them.
