A U.S.-China Trade War With Students and Tourists as Potential Pawns With travel warnings and revoked visas, the two superpowers locked in a bruising trade war may make students and tourists their bargaining chips.

The trade war between the U.S. and China is already eroding far more than just economic ties. The rapid expansion of the battlefield, from trade to culture and education, underscores how fragile the relationship between the U.S. and China has become.

A man in tactical gear and a baseball hat is taking an axe to a car window. He looks like he’s smiling.

This picture may haunt me to the end of my days.

It is an ICE agent taking an axe to the car window of an immigrant in New Bedford, MA. Not far from where I sit now. An immigrant with no criminal record was abducted by this smiling man.

An axe taken to a car window and to our democracy. 1/

why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been.

What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.

Breaking:

European Union officials have approved a fresh set of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports.

The duties, some of which would go into effect April 15, would range from 10% to 25% on more than $24 billion worth of goods, including tobacco, motorcycles, poultry, steel and aluminum.

Shortterm rentals are a huge impact to inventory availability. Most of the longterm rental properties are no longer available for longterm leases bc they've been flipped short term or bought out by LLCs. So frustrated by the "not enough houses" when every empty house in my neighborhood is an airbnb.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines.

When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Senate rejects bill that would kill ballot measure process and let Legislature rewrite constitution - Arkansas Times The Arkansas Senate voted down a bill that would require a 67% popular vote for passage of constitutional amendments.

Decent news from the state Capitol: The Senate has rejected a bill that would have required a 67% popular vote to pass constitutional amendments and opened the door to lawmakers changing (or repealing!) existing amendments. But it could be back.
