#Manx cross of early 10th Century.
1.65 metres high.

The stone stands in a slot cut in a large stone lying on the ground.

It has a large cross (arms of equal length) set in a ring. Decorated with interlace & plait-work carving.

Pope Francis and the apparently forgotten art of letter spacing
YouTube video by Frank Raw Pope Francis and the apparently forgotten art of letter spacing

Hello, my name is Frank and I'm a lettering nerd. Type, print, letter carving, and anywhere that good letters can be found. I like good letters and good letter spacing.

I've said it before and sadly it still stands, not all Roman letter(space)ing is good letter(space)ing.

Fibonacci provides the clues here, turning chaos into order with balance, beauty, grace, and proportion. The organ staircase at St. Mary’s, Studley Royal, designed by William Burges, echoes this harmony in the golden section.

A Roman silver tray featuring images of Roman gods gathered around a shrine. Animals also appear, and the tray has a decorative vine around its rim.

This remarkable Roman silver tray was discovered by a nine-year-old girl called Isabel Cutter on the banks of the River Tyne near Hadrian's Wall in 1735. Known as the Corbridge Lanx, it shows Apollo, Artemis and Athena gathered around a shrine. It is now held at the British Museum #FindsFriday

Today's the feast of St Catherine, by tradition a 4th Century martyr, and one of the most popular of all saints in medieval days.

Here she is with her sword and wheel in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, an early 16C Flemish devotional statue. 1/3

One inside wall of the porch at Bakewell, with dozens of fragments of medieval grave slabs

#churchcrawling: All Saints, Bakewell, set high above the town withy a great collection of stones, inc to a ropemaker, plasterer, plumber, an apothecary, and a man who was killed in a mill when 'caught by a shaft'. (plus a porch full of grave slabs):
