This is what I believe was the "Glass & Mirror Showroom" at Clark & Eaton in Glasshill Street, Blackfriars. It was painted by Archibald Hattemore c.1933/34. Arch was by then a flooring estimator & he'd gone there to measure up & became fascinated by what he saw, so he painted it! #ArchibaldHattemore

'Misty Morning, River Thurne, Norfolk,' (c1960) is a striking example of Edward Seago's mastery of watercolour, a work in which you can sense the magic of being on the river just after the break of dawn - a sense of timelessness.

Our colleagues Al Jazeera reporters Anas al-Sharif & Mohammed Qraiqeh, & cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal & Moamen Aliwa have been killed in a strike on a tent for journalists near Al Shifa hospital. They worked relentlessly through bombing & hunger to document this war. Please remember them

If COVID resulted in everyone getting harmless, untreatable, utterly gross pustules covering their entire face for weeks we wouldn't still be in a pandemic.

1. I've said exactly this for quite some time. Expanding on Adrian's @sillyputty78.bsky.social point on X / Twitter here, Covid-19 has three distinct characteristics as a disease that enables it to be denied at a societal level.

Rightwingers warn of another blaze of summer riots in Britain – but they’re the ones striking the match | John Harris Grim predictions of β€˜societal collapse’ and β€˜civil war’ will hit home so long as Labour fails to address the country’s problems, says Guardian columnist John Harris

Arresting 400+ people for the "terrorist" offence of protesting against mass murder while large segments of the right are openly encouraging riots against immigrants is a tale of a very unhappy country and government.

The question isn’t β€˜are people more evil or not than they were in the past?’

The question is - are more people likely to get away with their evil than they did in the past?

Israel's endgame is clear: the ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip and the expulsion of its population. It is not an immediate goal, and Israel uses different levels of violence depending on the situation. And yet the physical destruction of the Strip leaves no other outcome.
