Concrete work is underway along Holland Lane. New and improved crossings for pedestrians are part of the work. Following the concrete work, milling and repaving of the roadway. Finally work will wrap with a redivision of the roadway, high visible crosswalks, and bike lanes. Thanks to city staff!

The new section of the trail was open yesterday. Contractor was still working on installing signs.

I had recently asked if that jarring bit could be repaired. Was told that section of the trail (west of Beauregard) will be closing shortly to build the new bridge.

North Old Town is now in the game. Bike lanes are being installed on three blocks of 2nd Street. These bike lanes will help make the street safer for all users. Thanks to T&ES staff for adding to the city’s growing bike infrastructure.

A small, but greatly appreciated improvement to the Holmes Run Trail - a bollard was removed! Thanks to city staff from DRPCA, the bollard at the trail entrance to the trail at Latham Street is gone. Now people walking and biking have easier access to and from the trail.

Lane markings on the trails

City staff are at again! This time it is Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities staff unleashing stripping crews to the Eisenhower Avenue and Holmes Run Trails with refreshed markings. The edge lines will be especially helpful in the wee, small hours of the morning. Thank you

.66 miles of newly separated infrastructure for people walking and biking. Keeping people safe! And with one only one stop sign along the route. Definitely worth celebrating.

Enjoyed seeing a group of young bike riders using the new two-way cycle track on Mill Road this morning.

Speed limit reductions started with Quaker in 2016. Just 8 streets to go for 25.

The plowing helped! The HRT is clear from Ripley to Duke, plus the Ripley Street and Beatley Bridges have cleared pathways. From Duke to Eisenhower the trail has lots of ice with some clear patches.

However, from Duke to Eisenhower - lots of ice. A young man was busy clearing a pathway.

Hmm, maybe property owners should be responsible for clearing parking spaces in front of their property after a snowfall. Just add it to their responsibility for clearing the sidewalks.

There is still plenty of ice. Pictures were taken around 11:15 this morning.

City Council and managers need to recognize that sidewalks, intersections, trails and bike lanes are ultimately their responsibility. I commend city staff for their efforts, but they need the funding and resources to make all forms of transportation safe after a snow event.

I went back and looked at it this morning, I think you are right. I suspect that VTS did the “sidewalk” clearing.

On Seminary Road, westbound, it looks like some small vehicle cleared portions of the protected bike lane. Oddly, they didn’t clear all sections.

There are a few in Alexandria.

My apologies to the “tiny bicycling” community. I did not realize that some in the biking community identified as tiny. I had thought I was representing all people who lived, worked or visited the city and wanted safe streets for all. To the “tinys”, I will do better to ensure your inclusion.
