update: it's going okay. only smoked once since this post. sleeping is fucking harrrrd but I'm a lot more present. finished two fantasy novels in a week. have this frightening sense of vulnerability now that I can feel things more fully, and I'm more aware of others (and that they're aware of me)

I've seen so many saying they're quitting their art form bc of AI, but others using AI will never make me quit doing what I do. even if it isn't profitable, even if I never get recognition for it. I make the art I make bc I love to make art. Bc I *need* to make art. it's really as simple as that

This year I got back into reading fiction, and it's all bc of the late, great Ursula K. Le Guin. I started in January with The Dispossessed, finished The Left Hand of Darkness last month, and I'm currently almost finished with A Wizard of Earthsea, which is prob my favorite fantasy novel ever now

and just in general feeling vaguely foggy at random points, being less present overall. Could also be that it exacerbates my ADHD or something, it's different for everyone for sure

Yeah definitely try to stay as aware & intentional as possible! i didn't really notice the effects on my overall focus & motivation for years until I noticed it was real hard for me to stay focused on things I used to love doing for very long, like playing long RPGs to relax, especially after work

I do want to make it clear this isn't coming from a place of "weed is bad," though-- I'd still probably partake every once in awhile, with intention, the same way I'm trying to do with alcohol. But like all medicines, it has side effects; ESPECIALLY when used daily. It stopped being worth it for me

I've gone extended periods of not smoking in the past, but it's only ever been a few months at a time, and never while I've had my meds. Plus, I have much better body awareness now, so I can actually observe the difference in how I feel. It's pretty neat. Withdrawal should go away fairly soon.

This all probably sounds very obvious to people who don't smoke lol. I think the part that blows me away most is the difference in how I feel during the day! Even when I was smoking, I had gotten it down to only smoking in the evening, and I only considered the immediate mental effects

I stopped smoking shweed entirely on Thursday after spending the last few years smoking almost every day, and I gotta say, despite the shitass physical symptoms that come with it, I feel great. I actually want to play games again. I'm super clearheaded. My ADHD meds feel like they work better

yeah when I read The Dispossessed at the start of this year, when I tell you it had me GRIPPED. I took fucking NOTES while I read y'all. it was all I could think about or do for a straight week, and then I spent another week writing about it.

sure, people churn out silly video essays left and right these days for money, but then I think of the way Ursula Le Guin touches my fucking soul

Don't sell yourself that short! Writing has literally changed my life-- it may have a low barrier to entry, but the potential impact is IMMENSE, and it's hardly a craft that's easy or quick.
