Rain has started here, a bit less than a few minutes ago. Hotel corridors flooded in places staff having to try and get it cleared. No thunder yet but apparently coming.

Apparently a storm here tomorrow that's not great, never had a drop of rain before here. UK had a better than normal summer and here having a worse than normal time.

Oh dear not good. A lot warmer than that where I am, although not as warm as other years. It's warmer today 27 but looks like stay will be 24-25. Last 3 years been between 26 (1 day) & 35.

No #Genealogy for me for a couple of weeks. Just gorgeous views like this from a sunbed looking over towards Bodrum, Turkey from Kos, Greece.

A bit of #History will be thrown in when we do some day trips.

I use Rootsmagic associations, it's very helpful to make connections between people for different subjects. I've used many of the built in options plus created a few custom ones.

I'm also using my 1879 death certificates to narrow down when 1 Dr retired and the now known temporary bigamist Dr arrived in my OPS.

I think I only have 1 in my collection from Australia. Must look to see how much info it has, been a while since I last looked. It's for a Goodyear I think so relevant to my OPS too.

Is that Australian Death Certificates? That is so helpful.

So many laptops have so little hard drive space, they seem to expect everything kept in the cloud. I use OneDrive for files but ran out of space on a 250gb drive, treated myself to a new laptop with a 1tb drive and no more issues.

Sometimes you'll see a P or Private on an earlier baptism often occurs if a baby is not expected to live and is baptised at home. Then a second when they are received in the church. Sometimes you may be lucky and that is mentioned too.

Also after 1874 Doctor names not just certified. Helpful for filling in more about the local Doctors in a place.

Beyond the online Genealogy Sites! Part 1 A case study showing how records of the poor law can help us understand lives of our ancestors.

This whole blog came about because of my initial find in the workhouse minutes that Rhoda had epilepsy.

Besides interesting things like that, I've found how much Doctors in St Mary Bourne have been paid.

I remember years ago people saying to me there not worth getting unless you really need to know the cause of death. Other records people said weren't worth it were Workhouse minutes which are full of useful info, I love them.

Absolutely. They can also send you off to find so much more information in the archives if the death is in an institution. Causes can be helpful to track family health issues.

The Story in a Name: What Longstock Reveals About the Past โ€” David Barton | Genealogist & Historical Researcher Uncover the history of Longstock, Hampshire, its Anglo-Saxon roots, Viking past, and how its place-name reveals over 1,000 years of heritage.

I recently launched a new website and the first post on the blog is about my one-name study, so what better day to share it for the first time, than #OnePlaceWednesday! www.davidbartonresearch.co.uk/the-archive/... @oneplacestudies.bsky.social #OnePlaceStudy

The carving is fab definitely. A lot of my ancestors were baptised in this font & St Mary Bourne is my One-Place Study. Outside the church is the original stone base. The current base if I remember correctly was added in 1927.
