It is #timetraveltuesday here again at The Family Archives! This time my husband Jack, looking like his grandfather and namesake, also Jack! They never got to meet as he had sadly passed before Jack was born #genealogy #familyhistory #whakapapa #oldphotos

This gives me a chuckle because my grandmother was called Betty (but not Elizabeth) and repeatedly had to tell people so!

23.09.2025 19:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0#ancestryhour had some luck finding out more about a 4x great aunt this week - knew she had arrived in NZ in 1878 from shipping records, now found her marriage record (her maiden name had been mangled) and death record. No children found yet so more to do.

22.09.2025 08:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0#genhour super late to the party as usual! The theme of my #familyhistory research this week: strong women! One emigrated from #Liverpool to #NZ at 19 after losing her parents and half of her siblings. One outlived 3 husbands. One had 2x sets of twins in a row, only 1 of the 4 children saw adulthood

13.09.2025 19:11 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Tips in te reo Mฤori! If you don't label your photos (date, occasion, people), decades from now, your descendants will struggle to identify them. Label the back in pencil, or better still, use archive-safe enclosures and label those. I can help with that! #genealogy #archives #familyhistory
17.09.2025 04:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Lovely read. Thanks for sharing! I'm also researching family in Liverpool at a similar time, with similar stories. He was a master mariner. She died in her 30s, and lost several children as infants. Wonder if they knew each other!

Kia ora, here in #Aotearoa #NZ we are celebrating 50 years of #Mฤori Language Week. Pictured is my 3x great-grandmother Emma Simรดn and her husband John. 06.09.2025 22:46 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 7 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Far out, finally cracked it. Turns out the lady wasn't mysterious at all. It was her mother (not stepmother), who kept changing names because she outlived 3 husbands, and also had record mistranscriptions and first name variants! Her great granddaughter also outlived 3 husbands.

11.09.2025 01:24 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Ohh OK so the origins of the word step-parent come from old English prefix steop- meaning orphaned or bereaved, not how we know it today! That makes more sense.
