Love me a cute historical hall - this one is in Omiha, Waiheke Island. Featuring lots of old photos and local stories on the walls. Still a hub of community including transforming into a cafรฉ on weekend mornings! #history #nz Our Story - OWRS share.google/uY5WbfwJkrv7...

Rather chuffed to have my article published in The New Zealand Genealogist magazine December issue. The theme was "Where did they live?" #genealogy #familyhistory #archives #nz #genhour #oneplacestudies

#ancestryhour is it just me, or is discovering your ancestors maidennames the best buzz? Opens the door to a whole new family history. I'm not just a McGavock, I'm a Macintosh, Simรดn, Tukuwaha, Mason, Carlin, Campbell, Cavannagh. Dorรฉe, Single, McKain. Shedden, Coveny, Thomas, Greenman. #genealogy

It's wild to me that people do this, don't see how inaccurate they are, (or do see it) but proceed to use it anyway

#ancestryhour bashing away at my favourite brick wall this week - tree branches are growing outwards and downwards, little bit of height in maternal lines and some surprises! Could it be that my 4x great grandfather literally married the girl next door?! Watch this space! #genealogy #Scotland #nz

Wage Tax Stamps โ€“ A Colourful Insight in to Life on a Family Farm in 1940s New Zealand โ€“ The Family Archives I recently worked with a client who brought along a little pile of family taonga for me to digitise and archive. The first thing that she showed me was the โ€˜Minute Bookโ€™ from her familyโ€™s farm. Whatโ€ฆ

#genhour A little story about a collection of 1940s Wage Tax Stamps! Plus have made it easier to subscribe to my blog at The Family Archives, so that you get notified whenever a new one is published. Here is the link thefamilyarchives.co.nz/wage-tax-sta...

Cool! I have a (forgotten how many greats) grandfather who married his second wife in that church. Their son eventually emigrated here to NZ, following his two older half-sisters.

When you are handing items on to the next gen, use photos to help tell the story of their origin! Like this Wade Whimsies Hare that my children were playing with this week. A philatelist's dream! Digitised a farm Minute Book including 1940s wage stamps (precursor to PAYE system)! Such a colourful part of our #history - watch this space for a blog post all about them! And 'yes' I did collect stamps as a child haha. #stamps #nz #philatelist #genealogy #familyarchives

#genhour having a great week here, exchanging family history info with a cousin via email. Each bringing something to the party. She has more info and records collected from Scotland, and I've been able to surprise her with two New Zealand sisters that she hadn't known our 2x great grandfathers had!

#ancestryhour celebratory happy dance over here as a 'cuzzy' (never mind the 'removed' etc) has agreed to collaborate with me on our McGavock Ulster-Scot brick wall. Including sharing copies of a bunch of records I was about to pay for! Plus two brains are better than one.

Managed a little crossover between academic research job and #familyhistory last week. We had a wฤnanga at Te Rau Karamu marae (Massey University #nz) where we discussed sleep in Te Ao Mฤori. I wasn't the only one who brought photos of tลซpuna with me either! We're closer to them when we sleep.

When you are obsessed with #familyhistory, you get people such presents! For my brother's birthday, I printed him the 1911 newspaper article about our 2x great-grandfather receiving this 'suitably inscribed' pocket watch, that he has since inherited. On acid-free archival paper of course! #archives
