Jan. 27 is Thank Your Mentor Day. I met 10 of Time Magazine’s 100 Women of the Year: Eleanor Roosevelt, Gloria Steinem, Margaret Thatcher, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Chase Smith, Lucille Ball, Rita Moreno, Jackie Kennedy, Beyoncé, Irna Phillips. One remembers being in the presence of greatness.

Jan. 27 is Thank Your Mentor Day. Honors relationships between mentors and mentees, in personal and professional development. Walt Disney advised me: "There are 6 creative ways to implement a good idea. If it doesn't have that many arms & legs, it's not a good idea."

The National Day of Racial Healing is Tuesday, Jan. 20, the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It encourages community connection & action for equity, with events across the U.S. by organizations like the ELCA & Kellogg Foundation, focusing on healing through shared experiences & dialogue.

Song “Happy Birthday” by Stevie Wonder was 1981 tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It called for MLK’s birthday to become a national holiday, which transpired in 1986. Wonder used the song to popularize the campaign for the holiday, which transpired in 1986.

January is Mentoring Month. Jan. 17 is International Mentor Day. Jan. 19 is Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service. Jan. 27 is Thank Your Mentor Day. Honors relationships between mentors & mentees, in personal & professional development.

Jan. 14, 1919: Winston Churchill became Secretary of State for Air in Great Britain. I met Churchill in 1960. He said: "You're an intellectual. Just don't act like it." I was a 12. He was 83.

Jan. 14, 1967: The first psychedelic happening occurred in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Thousands of hippies came together to love each other, hear music and take drugs. The song “San Francisco” by Scott McKenzie tributed that event.

Song in the current Farmer's Dog commercial is "With a Girl Like You," 1966 hit from The Troggs. This was a followup to The Troggs' "Wild Thing."

Betty Furness demonstrated Westinghouse products on commercials during CBS-TV's "Studio One," 1948-1959. Betty was an actress but became known as a consumer advocate because of the TV show. Remembering Betty's TV commercial slogan, "You can be sure if it's Westinghouse."

Dec. 20, 1957: Elvis Presley received his draft notice from the U.S. Army. He was served at his Memphis home. Presley got a deferment to finish work on his film “King Creole.” He entered the service in spring, 1958 and served two years in Germany.

Dec. 12, 1964: Righteous Brothers’ winner “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” charted, reaching #2. Bobby Hatfield wasn’t sure of record’s possibilities. He asked producer Phil Spector, “What do I do when Bill Medley is singing first verse?” Spector’s response was, “You can go directly to the bank.”

With love & prayers to those killed and injured in Australia on the first day of Hanukkah. In honor of National Giving Month, remembering Maureen Reagan, whom I met at 1972 charity gala. She was celebrity advocate for Save the Children Foundation & I was emcee. In 1998, Hank Moore was opening speaker at non-profit summit in Philadelphia, PA, with Maureen Reagan & General Colin Powell.
