Sadly learned that Marcel Ophuls passed away on Saturday. Last December I wrote this piece for @cineastemagazine.bsky.social that investigated Ophuls’s connection to Los Angeles. Ophuls, who spent his young adult years in LA during the 1940s, was influenced by prejudice he witnessed in the city.

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

An ‘Administrative Error’ Sends a Maryland Father to a Salvadoran Prison The Trump administration says it mistakenly deported an immigrant with protected status but that courts are powerless to order his return.

I can't seem to get any journalist interested in this significant fact, but, again:

THE LAST TIME THE GOVERNMENT USED THE ALIEN ENEMIES ACT (IN 1941/1942) THEY GAVE EACH ARRESTED PERSON A HEARING.

To, y'know, avoid exactly this kind of f*ck-up.

A horrible failure of justice and a shameful act on the part of the judges who approved of this ruling. I doubt they realize what they have just done by legitimizing the use
of the Alien Enemies Act.
