Womble Mania exhibition opens at the Heights of Abraham in Derbyshire A new retrospective exhibition tells the story of the Wombles’ journey from books to screen and pop stardom. Elisabeth Beresford's son, Marcus Robertson, cut the ribbon for the official opening.

My Orinoco backpack arrived a few days ago, and I love how accurate he looks! It was such a good deal off ebay too.

Only $70 or so dollars with free shipping + two 70s badges!!! Wombles merch is a nightmare to ship to Australia because shipping's usually around $20 AUD, so this was a steal!

The Wombles first aired on 5 February 1973. The series was based on the books written by Elizabeth Beresford, about a secretive group of creatures who live beneath Wimbledon Common, collecting and recycling the litter left behind by the "everyday folk".

1975 UK TOP 20 w/e 6 September. Back up from 26 to 20 ‘Super Womble’ The Wombles, back up from 21 to 17 ‘Fame’ David Bowie, 27 to 11 ‘Moonlighting’ Leo Sayer, and up from 2 to no 1 ‘Sailing’ Rod Stewart.

Don't quite get why the updated Madame Cholet of the Wombles looks the way she does... Like, on one hand I think they're trying to make her look younger and more modern or something, but on the other hand they also somehow managed to make her even more of a French stereotype

There was actually a rare earlier incarnation of what I presume is Madame Cholet in a striped top in 1997, spotted cleaning up Manchester with Alex Ferguson. Perhaps even the picture library wasn't sure, as they only mentioned Uncle Bulgaria in the caption.

Today I learned that there was a CGI reboot of The Wombles made back in 2013 that got cancelled and is partially lost media.

The crazy thing is, the CGI and designs look so much better than the CGI reboot that we ended up getting. Tobermory even had his moustache!

I bought this 70s Great Uncle Bulgaria pin off Ebay and man, it was not cheap. Shipping from the UK to Australia is so expensive, not to mention the awful exchange rates
