My son's friend just asked if he could listen to some music on one of my discuses. Keeping obsolete technology alive one child at a time.

Don't think I ever heard it. The Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk album that they put together from fragments was quite bad, perhaps unsurprisingly

It's definitely resonating again but it feels very of its time to me, albeit hugely influental on the dross that was to come with bands like Coldplay

It's funny that it's resonating now but I suppose he's the progenitor of the soft indie lad emoting in a wooly hat, albeit the sentitive hats are a kind of mutant offspring. That's possibly why I hate it retrospectively, but fair play for calling bullshit at the time.

I suppose if you make it to my ripe old age then you accrue a certain amount of perspective. Grace isn't music made by a wise person, is it? It's yearning and passionate and deadly serious and a little bit silly, but it meant everything as a twenty something, as you say

And that documentary is so reverent and solemn, it's like an airless cell in space where all humour has been banished out into the dark void.

I find it strange how important Jeff Buckley's Grace was to me 30 years ago and how to my ear now it just sounds like melodramatic, overly worthy mithering.

Fair play to Jim Ratcliffe for getting the message out there about wealth inequality and billionaires not paying their taxes.

β€˜What I see in clinic is never a set of labels’: are we in danger of overdiagnosing mental illness? Our current approach to mental health labelling and diagnosis has brought benefits. But as a practising doctor, I am concerned that it may be doing more harm than good

The overdiagnosis narrative is deeply unhelpful. Not a mental illness but mental disorder related: my son was diagnosed with autism but urgently needs an ADHD assessment. He's been bumped off the list and it could take 4 years, all thanks to the political weather www.theguardian.com/news/2026/fe...
