A while back I put some thought into doing a book about the 60s & 70s NYPD "Seven-Ups" unit and its depictions in films—the fact that Frankenheimer did his Popeye-heroin-withdrawal FC II movie instead of some of the real stories about Egan and Grosso and Nunziata and Papa and Matthews is a bummer.

Amazing thread, especially for those with an interest in the NYPD of the 1960s/1970s. (I've been down a rabbit hole, having just read the 1981 book PAPA'S GAME, about the evidence-room theft of the French Connection heroin)
