Yeah that makes sense for the led folks to ditch DMX. Many of them are basically doing low resolution video at this point. In terms of theatrical lighting systems, you'll sometimes see MA net, or sACN go from FOH to the dimmer pit, but downstream it's still classic DMX for the most part.

DMX is like driving a Tesla using Morse code over CB radio. Every function is 1 byte at a time, one direction, no confirmation it worked.

DMX-512. Originally made to fade 512 theatrical dimmer channels, now used to run moving lights with 40+ parameters. Still 8-bit, still unidirectional, still RS-485 serial.
