The thing about "winning the middle" in order to make a big tent is that it fails, not only in practical reality, but as a metaphor.

New Mexico will be the first state to make child care free The program, which is expected to save families $12,000 per child annually, is available to all residents regardless of income.

New Mexico's economy is a fraction of the size of New York City's.

If they can enact universal childcare — and relieve working families of a crushing cost burden — surely we can too.

It's just a question of political will.

New Mexico has issued a public health order that removes federal restrictions to COVID-19 vaccine access so that pharmacies in New Mexico can vaccinate people of all ages and risk profiles. Every state need to do this!

Ok so this is pretty easy to predict, but I feel like the enthusiasm for planting native plants for the sake of the bugs is meaningfully boosted in my neighbors hearts and minds when I text them pictures of the critters who have visited the plants (esp when those insects happen to be butterflies)

Abq has a history of resilience & of immigrant-friendly policy. But Trump's attacks and ICE's actions make this an urgent time for local response and action.

With the awful news from the last couple hours, this post from the political optimism subreddit helped to break through a bit of the despair fog. Repubs know this is political suicide, ICE's support is crumbling despite the budget increase, and there's a myriad of ways to fight back. Keep strong.

Please mention when your write-ups covers work that was funded by federal agencies that are now being dismantled, defunded, and censored.

The public needs to know what is being lost, and if you don't tell them in the context of Cool New Science, who will?

Listen, if a Bad President can come in and take away our rights and we're dependent on a Good President replacing them in four years to give us back our rights, then we do not have any rights. If politicians can take or distribute them, then they're not "inalienable" and they're not "rights." We don't have inalienable rights we have conditional privileges, divvied out according to the whims of whoever currently holds the reins. And if we want to have actual rights, then we must build a system in which no one has the power to take them away to begin with.

Imagine if the media covered, and got as worked up about, Donald Trump and MAGA’s actual and open antisemitism as they do about Zohran Mamdani’s non-existent and made-up antisemitism. 🤷🏽‍♂️
