I made no comments about people not heating their homes.
I'm saying that Costa Rica's energy grid is 100% renewable, whereas India's is far from it. Therefore the impact on global warming when using AC in India is far greater.

Of course, if you need it you need it, and my simplification is overly simplified.

22.05.2025 22:05 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes, but the threat of having your parent come in and watch you would certainly make you think twice about your actions. Especially if kids have seen other parents come in.
I really don't think it could ever be something that works, but it sure would add angle to behaviour management.
But if you set it as a goal, and the school policy says that it's an expectation that if not met requires a sanction, then this is bound to lead to inconsistencies. This then leads to kids feeling they are being treated unfairly (rightly so), and then either further poor behaviour and/or complaints.
22.05.2025 22:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"forcing them into standards", otherwise known as expecting students to follow the rules that are set, is what supports students to reach their goals. Some students dream of becoming heart surgeons but won't even bring their book to class. Being their friend won't help them (or others) succeed.

It's true. We had a PGCE student come to us for their 2nd placement this year with slides from their first placement that all had "I do, We do, You do" across the bottom. Completely destroys any hope of story building or creativity in planning.

Why are we not at a last resort? School funding (in real terms) per pupil has gone down year upon year for decades. Buildings are crumbling and costs are rising. On top of this, other public services that previously supported schools have been cut. Students are bearing the consequences.
12.04.2025 09:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It hurts our current exam year students, yes. But it benefits all students after that due to greater funding for schools and better retention.
If we only ever think about our current exam groups, education will continue to be eroded until there's nothing left.
Please can we strike like the train operators do? Significant strikes for a real long-term difference to education.
