One of the problems with writing and speaking exercises for foreign languages is that so many of them are things like "talk about a celebrity in your country" and I simply do not care about celebrities.

There are a couple of pigeons on my balcony looking very much like potential property owners.

I really hope they aren't planning to move in and start a family.

The podcast that I listen to to improve my French listening constantly surprises me. I wasn't expecting a conversation about death being a critical part of life to involve so much discussion of apoptosis.

The main difference between taking my driver's license test now so that I can legally drive in my new country and taking it originally at 16 is that this time I desperately want to pass so I can go back to NOT driving all the time

The driving test contains such puzzling questions as "What is a Road for Motor Vehicles?", with the correct answer being "It's a road with a sign that says 'Road for Motor Vehicles'"

And for that I needed the core muscles that I never thought twice about as a dancer, because they were always there.

So some things are age, and some things are health. And some things aren't really the problem you think they are.

And today I needed the ladder again. So I dragged it out, dreading the vertigo. And then I swarmed up the steps, perched sideways at a very unsafe angle, and wrangled tools and nails and picture frames without a second thought.

It was never age. It was balance.

As I aged - well, I sat behind a desk.

Then last year, I decided to do something I'd always wanted to do. Learn to ride a horse. It's been amazing. But to stay on a horse, you need balance. And to balance on a horse, you need core muscles. So I started working those core muscles.

I'd feel jittery and uncertain. Getting old, right? I figured vertigo just came with the territory.

Now, another important thing about younger me - I was a gymnast. I was a dancer. I never thought about any other exercise, because there wasn't any need.
