31.03.2025 20:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's bad enough my career field is in shambles. But it's another when the field's purpose and ethics--a truthful approach to history and science no matter how ugly or beautiful, and to connect that with audiences across all barriers--are actively under attack.

Even if Musk wasn't the way he is, most of us can't afford his vehicles right now. Or work them into our local infrastructure year-round. Plus if I'm going to spend that much on a car or truck, it better not have such a high chance of catching on fire.
Reading about Doug Ford threatening to shut off electricity to the US as Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do starts playing seems about right

If you can't get a chance to see Hasan in action live, check out his children's book on York and keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming short documentary "Big Medicine: York Outdoors."
13.02.2025 04:49 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hasan Davis' portrayal of York today at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Great Falls was incredible and powerful. Auditorium was packed! Hasan is a legend and I'm glad I could finally watch him in person. Definitely in the top five Lewis and Clark presentations I've ever seen.
13.02.2025 04:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The photo is a black-and-white illustration depicting a scene of early surveying or exploration. In the foreground, a man is seated on the ground, deeply engrossed in using a surveying instrument, likely a theodolite or similar device, to measure angles or directions. He is dressed in period clothing, suggesting a historical setting. Around him are various tools and equipment, including a notebook, a triangular frame, and what appears to be a compass or another surveying tool. The background features a picturesque landscape with mountains, a lake or river, and a forested area. There are also several tipi-like structures, indicating a possible Native American encampment, and a few figures in the distance, one of whom seems to be on horseback.
On this day in 1857, my favourite historical figure, David Thompson, died in Montreal.
One of the greatest land geographers in history, he mapped 4.9 million sq-km of North America.
Let's explore his life :)

I'm not normally into IPAs these days unless they're paired with greasy pizza, but I really like Meadowlark Brewing's Teddy Roosevelt: American Badass IPA.
I want this shirt so bad. I wish I could go to the tourney next month to cheer on the Vandals, but I don't think a road trip from Helena to Boise is in the cards this March.

I'm checking out these response. Salmonids definitely dominate much of the fish literature--and maybe some of our freezers. Especially out here in the West.

02.02.2025 15:36 โ ๐ 391 ๐ 57 ๐ฌ 11 ๐ 1This photo is an illustration depicting a historical figure, likely a soldier from the 18th or early 19th century. The individual is dressed in a green military-style coat with red cuffs and facings, white trousers, and brown boots that reach up to the knees. He is carrying a musket in his right hand, with a powder horn and a cartridge box slung over his shoulder, indicating he is prepared for battle or a military campaign. His left arm is raised, possibly in a gesture of command or signaling.
It is Black History Month and each day this month I am sharing stories from Canada's Black history.
Today, it is the story of Richard Pierpoint, a man who was kidnapped and enslaved but gained his freedom and fought in two wars for Canada & Britain.
