this tells me i REALLY need to do a video essay on why Whose Line is inherently autistic media. Because the kind of sarcasm this social media guy wields just against people wanting to know information seems to indicate a complete lack of knowledge of how much of the fanbase is autistic.

it's so weird. the commercial is trying to make what it's selling appealing, and yet it has this jarringly bleak undertone to it. thousands of patrons on an endless tandem bike crossing a portal to nothingness, or endlessness, or some nondescript void. ka-ching, i suppose.

the high quality vexes me. you can't have something with that many people standing in the desert blocked in an unsettlingly choreographed fashion and not think that a tarsem or a russell mulcahy is trying to make something stirring regardless of how many people will be bankrupted by its efficiency.

the fact that it lasts sixty seconds and just keeps going, adding in an extremely strange saxophone break, evokes equal parts fever dream and brainwashing fodder. how many full sixy-second ads do you even see anymore? just this and televangelists basically.

it is...far too well-shot and well-produced for the level of swill it is hawking. it feels like equal parts tim&eric song and 90s pink floyd music video. whoever shot this thing gave it this sheen of respectability, this uncanny valley between content and cash-in.

if society lasts another 30 years, which weirdly isn't guaranteed at this point, there will be an attempt to look back at this specific moment in history, and I'm betting the strangest artifact from this decade will be the 'calling all thrillionaires' commercial for fanduel.
