Crossing guard report: saw a car today so completely covered in stickers I have no idea what color its paint is. Selfishly wanted to keep it stopped forever to see more kids react to it, but listened to my better angels in the end and let it move along. Godspeed, sticker car.

4. I once thought that this was the real lyric then learned otherwise BUT I like my version better (“But while there’s hope, while I still grieve, I will believe” [I Will Believe, from Anna and the Apocalypse], “My world is beginning to change” [My World Is Beginning Today from Santa Claus ICTT])

3. I do know the real lyric but I know about a very funny mondegreen from a friend so I sing that instead (“It’s Friday night on a Saturday” [Piano Man by Billy Joel], “Summer heat, born in the wheat” [Summer Nights from Grease])

2. I don’t know the real lyric & I don’t think my version is right, but it scans well enough so whatever (“He’s Craig of the creek, he’s gonna sit doooown” [Craig of the Creek theme])

Crossing guard report: an egret was standing so still in someone’s yard across the street that I had to wait for it to turn its head to determine whether it was a lawn ornament or a real bird. It eventually got up on the roof, which definitively settled that.

It’s a day of joy and solidarity, and significant financial impact for these bookstores. This year, Amazon is undercutting that with a “Book Sale” on the same day—a calculated move by a company that has already put half the bookstores in the country out of business, controls over 60% of the market and sells far more books than all indie bookstores combined. The people at Amazon responsible for the timing of their "Book Sale" should be ashamed, but they are shameless.

Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:
