What a feast we were served for the all night Prom! Kudos to Anna Lapwood because that was a great programme - and testimony to that was how quick the 8 hours (8!) flew by!

Should probably get some sleep now... πŸ’€

Great first #BBCProms tonight. Bought tickets because we love Arooj Aftab's voice, and then discovered the joy of Ibrahim Maalouf on the night!

The Guardian view on the museum of the year: a history of the north-east in 3m objects | Editorial Editorial: From teapots to trams, Beamish tells the everyday stories of generations in a way that is unique to the region

'Here the past is not a foreign country – you can get there on a tram.'

I might not be in the speechwriting game at the moment, but I still recognise a beaut of a line when I see one!

Price growth slowed isn't quite the same as house prices fell, which the headline suggests!

Howden lollipop man told to stop giving kids high-fives Neil Cotton says he has been told the gesture 'upsets drivers' by causing extra seconds of delay.

There are some big things driving social disconnection and undermining cohesion: but don’t underestimate the impact of smaller soulless, price of everything mentality things like this.
Rather a society where traffic went a bit slower & kids high five the lollipop man

THREAD: Misinformation about the Los Angeles protests

The claim in this viral tweet that US Marines have arrested the chief master sergeant of the California National Guard for opposing President Trump's orders is baseless and false.

RealRawNews is a notorious fake news website.

Oh and if you have a decent amount of time I’d recommend Tartu too - Estonia’s second city and its uni base. Small enough to do in a day, can’t remember how far though on transport

The Sea Plane Harbour is great if you’re into history (and prob if you’re not)
Take a trip out to Kadriorg on a nice day - enjoy the grounds, plus the art gallery there is great.
Olde Hansa is touristy but also really fun
If you’re into craft beer the Pohjala brewery is good, nr Seaplane

How many Hollywood movies are made outside America? I crunched the data behind the state of "non-American" Hollywood movies, and considered how any system of American tariffs might work.

A great read on how complex global film-making is, and how the UK is a major player in the process

This is a lovely piece. Though as someone non-sportsy on his way to see at mate at Lord's, do feel you missed out on one thing on your trip: the day drinking. Pairs perfectly with the nice grass, unchanging action etc etc. Members can bring in a bottle each...

Second Graham was obviously Dear England. Not sure edits added a huge amount (no Sunak or Starmer?) but still great. Interesting watching too after Southgate's Dimbleby lecture on male role models

(Didn't take a pic, so here's the National looking nice)

Time then for a mini James Graham run - Punch deserves all the great reviews. You can really tell a James Graham play now - perhaps because of Julie Hesmondhalgh - but feels a little (mean this as praise) like soap writing in parts?
