I’ve referred to OCD as a full-time job for which there is no vacation time or compensation, and while this was intended as a joke, it is also a statement of fact.

Unsurprisingly, the personal tragedy I suffered in 2023 and the copious external stress that followed have exacerbated the condition to near-unmanageable levels.

It is a disorder with which I’ve struggled for most of my life, and the reactions from people in my orbit have ranged from frustration to cold indifference, thus making me extremely hesitant to spell out my situation or seek out support.

It is a perpetual influx of intrusive thoughts, negative feelings, and (oftentimes unwarranted) fear. A significant portion of my time is spent contending with deeply intrusive thoughts, and the amount of stress OCD causes me on a daily basis is impossible to quantify.

THREAD: So October is OCD Awareness Month, and as many have stated, it’s so much more than an obsession with organization and cleanliness (though in my case, that’s often part of it).

I just fear that this awful period will unduly prejudice people against irredeemably evil bald men.
