This is true for many things. Its why slow-to-update animated series develop such devoted fanbases; after spending a couple months making up their own answers, they're doubly as invested as if you'd released the thing whole.

I don't think it's flaws so much as it's "friction." You want a little busywork in your high octane action game so you want to get back to the action. You want stupid randomness in your calculated tactics game so your pull of an incredible comeback against the odds.

I've nomentioned this before, but a friend had a hypothesis that to get lots of engagement it was important that a game have flaws and gaps. People arguing the rules, house-ruling it, "fixing" it, as opposed to a game that Just Works.

I'm creating bespoke, by-request character assets for the winner of a monthly drawing on the Ironsworn Discord. So far, I've made a Sundered Isles FORGER asset for canny crafters of forged objects and identities, and a Starforged BEARER asset for those gifted (and cursed) with an eldritch relic.

Good progress on a direction for Ironsworn 2e (working name: Ironsworn Sagas) the past couple of weeks, which makes me certain it'll all fall apart in playtests.
