07.08.2025 20:06 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I am very interested in politics but I get plenty of it absolutely everywhere. Social networking isn't fun for me if it's ALL politics.
07.08.2025 19:29 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Thanks, I hadn't heard of starter packs. I found some at the bottom of the explore/discover/whatever tab, but they only offered me three, and the only one I was kind of interested in was Nature. Clicked on it, and they were all specific to Canada and/or.... somehow political.
07.08.2025 19:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I have managed to break the habit of checking Facebook. But I don't often check 🦋 either.
A big part of it is that the people I have followed here tend to be heavily politically focused and it makes it a depressing read. What fun, silly content is there? I've got @dogrates.bsky.social . What else?
My tolerance for children has improved greatly over the years, but...
But.
Well. At least the world also has dogs.
I have definitely found that since I started avoiding Amazon in earnest, I'm simply... shopping less. I don't actually need most of that stuff.

19.07.2025 19:28 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I don't understand why LinkedIn doesn't let you select which specific people to share "open to work" status with. Options are only "recruiters" (ineffective) and "everyone" (too public if you're employed).
It seems such an obvious feature that it must be a CHOICE not to have it. What am I missing??
Probably a swallowtail caterpillar on probably a Queen Anne's Lace flower
Saw a nice one out at the coast on Saturday!

01.04.2025 00:28 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I use an app called TickTick, which is a general purpose task tracking tool. Ideally you should water based on how dry the soil is and not on a schedule, but for me it's more manageable to set individual schedules so I get reminders, and iteratively tweak each plant's schedule over time.
31.03.2025 18:58 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I name my plants so that when their personalized watering reminders pop up on my phone I know which one to water, even if I have more than one of the same type. 😊

I don't get what the strategy is behind convincing your supporters to take huge risks with their money, not to mention huge risks with their health. Their supporters will be disproportionately dead and/or destitute in the coming years.

18.03.2025 01:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I have heard of "trimming the bushes to make the deck look bigger" but it's a little awkward when that's how your dog comes back from the vet (abdominal ultrasound).
16.03.2025 02:00 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I'm paying attention to the extent that I can bear to. I do try to at least keep up on major events. I try to read an article or three about a given topic, if I have the stomach for it, but sometimes I just read the headlines.
Ground News has been helpful in seeing news from a variety of sources.
I read that even on Twitter, that comment got something like 15k likes, whereas Kelly's response to it got something like 230k.

Will they drive them?
Will they like them?
All of them. It's just a coincidence they all decided to do it right now. And that they all fired people for bad performance who had stellar performance reviews. It's all just a nutty coincidence.

04.03.2025 11:03 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Bear in mind, according to Nate Silver (or, my memory of his statements) approval polls tend to lag a couple of weeks behind actual public sentiment, just due to how long it takes to conduct and publish a high quality poll.

27.02.2025 01:34 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0I have unsubscribed from WaPo and can't read the article, but at least they're still allowing news articles that reflect badly on Trump, even though they are no longer allowing that for opinion articles.
