I am very interested in politics but I get plenty of it absolutely everywhere. Social networking isn't fun for me if it's ALL politics.

Thanks, I hadn't heard of starter packs. I found some at the bottom of the explore/discover/whatever tab, but they only offered me three, and the only one I was kind of interested in was Nature. Clicked on it, and they were all specific to Canada and/or.... somehow political.

I have managed to break the habit of checking Facebook. But I don't often check 🦋 either.

A big part of it is that the people I have followed here tend to be heavily politically focused and it makes it a depressing read. What fun, silly content is there? I've got @dogrates.bsky.social . What else?

I have definitely found that since I started avoiding Amazon in earnest, I'm simply... shopping less. I don't actually need most of that stuff.

(I now listen to Trevor Noah's podcast, but never watched him regularly when he hosted... whichever late night show it was, in spite of my deep appreciation for his work.)

My hope is that he takes this opportunity to pivot to channels that are more suited to the modern era and widens his audience. I'm a big fan, but broadcast TV just isn't a convenient medium for me.

I use an app called TickTick, which is a general purpose task tracking tool. Ideally you should water based on how dry the soil is and not on a schedule, but for me it's more manageable to set individual schedules so I get reminders, and iteratively tweak each plant's schedule over time.

I name my plants so that when their personalized watering reminders pop up on my phone I know which one to water, even if I have more than one of the same type. 😊

I'm paying attention to the extent that I can bear to. I do try to at least keep up on major events. I try to read an article or three about a given topic, if I have the stomach for it, but sometimes I just read the headlines.

Cancelled WaPo a few months ago, after the editorial staff shakeup. Cancelled Instagram a few weeks ago (low hanging fruit). Cancelled Amazon Prime and both of my Subscribe & Save items today.

Bear in mind, according to Nate Silver (or, my memory of his statements) approval polls tend to lag a couple of weeks behind actual public sentiment, just due to how long it takes to conduct and publish a high quality poll.

I have unsubscribed from WaPo and can't read the article, but at least they're still allowing news articles that reflect badly on Trump, even though they are no longer allowing that for opinion articles.
