'Tis the season, so there's a lot of 'pay it forward' posts swirling around about people buying Starbucks for the car behind them, etc.

Look, I love nice gestures. But if a person is already in line behind you, they've planned for the eventuality of paying for their items & have the means to do so.

And the fact that they are ultimately screwing over themselves and their own children for the benefit of a small percentage of the insanely wealthy is, unfortunately, a lesson they'll never learn.

Meanwhile, Lucy faces the immigration system. Alone.

The delight with which they laugh at the circumstances of those they often claim to care about, and how frequently they prove that they are willing to sacrifice anyone and anything, is truly vile.

Daily, hourly, to the minute, there are children in this country--born here and born elsewhere--being subjected to horrors that should not exist in a country that wants to call itself "first-world." And the hypocrisy (I know, they don't care) of the MAGA set when it comes to this is atrocious.

But these are children.
And the people flooding the Copper Courier's page, and every other new page reporting on stories like this, with laugh reacts and "gO iCe! 🥴" nonsense are the #savethechildren #protectthechildren people--once again proving that their "pro-children" stance is merely a facade.

Some chose to be sent back to their countries of origin, which is not uncommon for teens stuck in holding areas rife with various abuses--which many people believe is purposefully unchecked by those in charge because it leads to these types of decisions to leave rather than suffer it.

Several teens also appeared in front of the judge that day in various states of readiness to handle courtroom proceedings. Some spoke through interpreters while others had more of a grasp on the language. None should have had to face the court with no legal assistance.

Lucy, holding a teddy bear, was unable to understand the proceedings happening around her. She was supposed to have found legal representation for herself, but she's three. Her case was postponed until March.

Many were at least being assisted by the team from The Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project (FIRRP), which does incredible work, but which is also facing massive funding cuts thanks to Trump admin actions.

There are no images from inside the Tuscon court last week, so this photo will have to serve as a stand-in for yet another situation where a toddler who can't get into courtroom chairs without assistance is required to face a court hearing alone.

Last week, a three year-old was forced to serve as her own attorney at immigration court in Tuscon.

She is one of thousands of children forced to do this, as federal funding has been slashed for the legal aid orgs who try to represent them.
