The @ictc13.bsky.social keynote everyone was waiting for: Hans Paerl. He provided a truly global view, expanding our focus to coastal and marine systems. He stressed that sustainable control requires P and N reduction and that climate change, droughts, floods, and storms intensify our challenges.

The question was whether 'Planktothrix is in trouble', given that in recent years it has appeared in deeper layers below the euphotic depth. His explanation: lower P due to re-oligotrophication, so that P.r. is 'oversummering' in the hypolimnion and only growing in winter.
