A Different Class of social commentary: Pulp’s era-defining album turns 30 All the tracks have stood the test of time, but Common People stands out above them all.

This makes me feel old but also so lucky to have experienced and adored every minute of this album while living in Sheffield in 1995. It will forever be the most beloved soundtrack of my life. "A different class it truly is."

I have not done too well with reading for pleasure in recent years. This year I am on 7 books and want to reach the 10 mark before the end of year. I know this is meagre for some, but it will be a welcome small achievement for me. #reading #books #wellbeing

a black and white photo of a crowd of people with a sign that says walter ALT: a black and white photo of a crowd of people with a sign that says walter

In the late 19th century, millions of migrants left Germany as a result of religious persecution, economic hardship, and political uncertainty.

Among them was Nikolaus Schrod, a cabinet maker from Frankfurt who - along with his wife Bina - moved to London to start a new life in the 1850s. 1/3

Thank you Jaime. Just to say that, although I have signed the very first letter circulated, I have not received the email summarising these points (I was told by a friend). So, there may be more colleagues who haven't got the email and need to see this information.

"2. Defining the scope of areas of interest of the Association – the extent to which topics other than an interest in archaeology/ cultural heritage may be addressed (if at all)."
This sounds like a backdoor way of excluding the inherent politics in anything archaeology is and does

" 1.Defining the geographical scope of the Association – essentially a definition of what is meant by 'Europe' and 'European' and how it is to be determined." This sounds very a-historical and has the potential to create a lot more friction.

#EuropeanAssociationArchaeologists members: what is your view for the per rollam vote that has been sent out?
I want to vote yes, so that it is clear that members want change. But, at the same time, I find these proposals (below) very problematic.

So EAA update: the google form calling for the EAA to hold a special meeting was taken down after 'complaints' - however all signatures were saved as the form has been moved over to a different host. If you want to sign there is still time - link is here:

Reform is not some unstoppable political force.

It spent the weekend calling Lucy Connolly a "political prisoner", cheering a guy who opposes Covid vaccines & dismissing climate change.

Labour should spray these clips across the web.

Make Reform fight on this ground. It is eminently beatable.

A very important message. Archaeology is not 'neutral', it must always live up to its ethical responsibility. Many Congratulations @zenakamash.bsky.social !!

Here’s a CNRS offer to come to PACEA. It’s a multi-year contract that at the end will turn into a permanent Senior Researcher position if objectives are met. So if you’re a several years post PhD and a specialist in paleoenvironments, geoarchaeology, and human adaptation give it a look!

New research from MIT found that those who used ChatGPT can’t remember any of the content of their essays.

Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn.

Here's an idea to promote #sustainability and greater #equality: ban big tech companies from not releasing software updates for our older devices! No devices in landfill, no money (we can't afford) spent to replace perfectly working machines!

I know ancient Greek names can be very confusing, and students run out of time for proof reading, but it takes a silly amount of effort to consistently write "Eurpepides" throughout an entire essay...

Extreme marking season is upon me but we are not required to annotate student scripts. My guilty pleasure is to annotate them for my own enjoyment with truly honest thoughts about the contents. Comments can include stuff likeβ€œBlooming brilliant” but more often I resort to β€œWTF?!”
