While on the subject of birds, does anyone know what sort of decibels a robin can achieve? My neighbourhood one was giving it the full Shirley Bassey this morning.

I often see a heron standing patiently in the River Wandle waiting for a careless fish to come within reach, and sometimes there’s even a cormorant perched high on a nearby tower block (I suspect it thinks it’s a cliff). This morning a new visitor though - a little egret. A new sighting for me.

Yay! I’m hoping one or two other people still on the toxic place will also jump across then I’m happily going to close that account.

The first Sunday of Advent only means one thing in my house:

Can’t believe that Victoria Coren Mitchell has just suggested that Numberwang was an Armstrong & Miller sketch when it was Mitchell & Webb - her own husband’s show. And I don’t think she was being funny!

Well that was a win. Went to see the Practice Nurse about one thing and came away with a flu jab into the bargain.

Sadly not moved. Complicated health story - suffice to say I have a rare genetic condition which needs specialist attention & the specialists are here in London. Train delay was on my way to visit brother who is now in Dorset. At least I have that as a bolt hole.

In a word, no. But then I have little time for the Romantics full stop. Had to read The Sorrows of Young Werther for German A Level and was relieved when the hero finally shot himself.

I love goldfinches, but I envy you the red poll you had in your garden the other day. I spotted a lovely gold crest on my brother’s feeder when I was there at Christmas - another lovely bird, I think.

At lunchtime I managed to give myself a paper cut+ on some aluminium foil, and now I’ve peeled off some of my thumb with a veg peeler. The end of the day can’t come soon enough really.

Well, I’ve had a bit of an odd year, health-wise, but things are improving. Now in the final frantic Christmas push at work. Hell has well and truly broken loose.
