I remember well her dark and bleak crash-landing novel, "We Who Are About to..."—

John Clute aptly said, "The novel functions not only as a sharp-tongued satire but also as an analysis of the underlying rhetorical biases of many traditional hard science fiction scenarios."

A timeless classic of science fiction. I found the first part the best, but the following ones were also excellent.

Timelike Infinity - Stephen Baxter (for me it was a must read / the conclusion of the Xeelee / Michael Poole part of the sequence)

* Spin - Robert Charles Wilson (liked Robert's output in the 90s)

* The Quantum Thief - Hannu Rajaniemi (not my cup of tea)

A book title is like a gateway, hinting at what awaits you. So don't mess it up!

(or for others) disappointing.

In any case, Scholz is undermining our expectations and creating a sense of unease, which is a good thing that one learns to appreciate.

Gypsy is bleak and thoughtful - it vividly portrays the difficulties of interstellar travel and the fragility of hope in the face of a dying home planet with an anticlimactic ending , wich imo, is fitting

As the journey progresses, technical malfunctions and crew illnesses become increasingly apparent. When necessary, experts are awakened to resolve the problems and ensure the ship's arrival...

I stumbled over this wonderful novella in Dozois' collection 'The Mammoth Book of Best New SF 29'.

A multi-generational journey in a spaceship that takes decades to reach its destination, keeping the crew in cryogenic sleep...

He often supplements his novels with corresponding story collections – this one is from the Proxima/Ultima universe.

I remember Robson's "Mappa Mundi" very well.

"...the map of everything you know, of everything you are, of everything you will ever be..."

Science fiction is at its best when it deals with Inner Space in the sense of J. G. Ballard. Robson adds some action, and yes, something like this 😉

Then I got my hands on his novel 'Palimpsests'
quite philosophical/existentialist Sf and, at the time in the 1980s, probably ahead of its time.

A truly underrated author.

Harrison has written the definitive anti-space opera here! Expectations are not met and it's an uncomfortable reading experience – so definitely a recommendation!
