Hamelin and Bad Pyrmont are Definitely on my list for a weekend roadtrip.

Siebenbürgen is definitely prettier (my Dad visited).

That's where the German speaking minority in Romania comes from.

That's the real world background of the story BTW. In the 18th century, recruiters wandered through the Weser Uplands and told young people to come to Siebenbürgen (now Romania) where they would get free farmland.

BTW, in Hamelin, you can do a city tour with the Pied Piper. If you're lucky, he won't lure you away to Siebenbürgen.

The Minden lock is a popular tourist attraction. And almost every student in North Germany visited the lock on a school trip at least once.

I need to visit Hamelin some time again soon.

Hamelin is further upstream from Minden and indeed lovely.

And now I must look up that poem and which pleasant spot in particular he meant.

There are some lovely places on the river Weser.

And I frequently curse it, whenever I have to deal with the traffic jam at the A1 Weser bridge.

I live approx. 10 kilometers from the river Weser, so I know it very well indeed.

Not as wide here as in Bremerhaven, but still wide enough.
