Itโ€™s always nice to see a theatre review you completely agree with. This yearโ€™s Elf The Musical at the Aldwych is pretty much perfect. Highly recommended! ๐Ÿ‘

They did (or something very like it). My sister and I, both in our sixties, were laughing like idiots last night. It was a brilliant production, highly recommended ๐Ÿ‘

Sorry about that. I donโ€™t have an FT subscription but that link (which came from Danโ€™s original post) took me straight to the (non-paywalled) article.

โ€ฆ and worth reading, as ever! Really interesting snippets, not least about the Bletchley dogs that didnโ€™t bark at the time of the German Ardennes offensive in 1944. Thanks Tony, itโ€™s always a pleasure to see one of your blogs pop up ๐Ÿ‘

Iโ€™m not in her party but I very strongly support Annaโ€™s response to this. People like Robbie Moore MP and their (much more significant) โ€˜leadersโ€™ should be held to account.

What I cannot work out is *why* Labour thinks saying "It was right to cut Winter Fuel Allowance last year and it's right to reinstate it this year because circumstances changed so much"

Is better than "We listened to you, we got it wrong, we've fixed it, and we're sorry".

I get your point Jonathan, and weโ€™re on the same side, but the data you and I have presented in this thread only counters a narrow aspect of whatโ€™s generally alleged by the right wing. I really want to offer broad well-evidenced counter arguments to them, but donโ€™t have the data Iโ€™m looking for atm

OBR chart showing average net contribution to the UK economy for immigrants and residents from birth. It shows high and average wage immigrants making a greater net contribution to the economy from the assumed arrival age of 25 years.

I havenโ€™t seen an OBR graph that breaks the data down by origin as well as age, but hereโ€™s an (OBR corrected) graph by age and migrant earning category:

Iโ€™ll applaud when I hear news of a more significant deal, with the EU. Steel and cars will be beholden to the vagaries of Trumpโ€™s USA, which canโ€™t be a good thing beyond the shortest term.

That said, thanks for the reply - nice to see from an MP ๐Ÿ‘
