The rush to govern AGI with managerial frameworks like "Theory of Change" fundamentally misunderstands power. AGI demands problematization & a cartography of power, not an illusion of rational control.

Updating my Ambitions as a Mother Motherhood on the Cusp of the Singularity: Part 1

"Instead of beliefs, I am going to take positions. Positions must be defended or they will erode; they must evolve or they will diminish; they require proactive learning and expansion.

Beliefs are just held.

In a moment like this, I can’t just hold beliefs."

So how many times did you walk by the cupcakes? At any point did you think, "oh there's my wife's favorite cupcake"? I think state of mind here is really key. This failure has made it all the way to Chicago. πŸ˜‚

If an algorithm produces a conclusion we cannot trace, should we distrust it? Even when much of human reasoning is equally opaque. In theory, perfect transparency might seem essential; in reality, what matters most is whether the resulting actions are safe and acceptable.

Leaders now have a timely opportunity, even a responsibility, to clearly articulate their organization's stance on AI, craft thoughtful usage guidelines, and create an environment of trust where successes and lessons learned are openly shared.

How will you ensure that there are safeguards? How will you know how your children are using these technologies? How can you set them up for success while protecting them?

Where do you fit on the parenting tech-adoption continuum? What AI solutions make sense for your family and your children?

There is a continuum of parenting tech adoption from Amish parents to parents who are editing genomes, pre-implantation of embryos, and everything in between. There are no wrong or right choices, but there are informed and uniformed choices.

My daughter has been conversing with ChatGPT's voice mode for 18 months since September 2023. She is fluent in conversing with AI conversation bots and accesses it on the iPad, my phone, or my laptop.

I first gained access to OpenAI solutions on January 1st, 2022. I read about the company in Azeem Azhar's Exponential View newsletter, signed up, and was brought to tears within minutes when I saw what it could do.

Leaders now have a timely opportunity, indeed a responsibility, to clearly articulate their organization's stance on AI, craft thoughtful usage guidelines, and create an environment of trust where successes and lessons learned are openly shared.

Beyond risks, employee reticence and silence also stifle learning, inhibit transparency, and ultimately risk valuable data.

Too frequently, employees hesitate to disclose which AI tools they use or the tasks they're automating, fearing repercussions in the face of absent or unclear internal policies.

In the IT Risk Management space, this is called β€œShadow AI,”; Chicago’s executives must step back and initiate frank, transparent conversations about what responsible AI usage genuinely entails.
