We need diverse representation not only so every kid can see themselves as the hero of the story, but so that every kid can understand that *other* kinds of kids are *also* the heroes of the story.

Representational diversity is important not just for minority kids to see themselves represented, but for the majority kids to understand that they're not the only ones that can be the center of an interesting story.

The Boots Theory is an economic theory that people in poverty have to buy cheap and subpar products that need to be replaced repeatedly, proving more expensive in the long run than more than the expensive items the wealthy only need to buy once.
