Here I argue the Home Secretary's case that Palestine Action is concerned in terrorism is lacking in evidence, and proscribing the group is disproportionate. It will criminalise a significant proportion of civil society and be counterproductive for maintaining safety.

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.
or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

Pretty incredible own goal by liberal institutions and many Democratic electeds to crush the exact type of protests in 2024 that wouldβve been the most effective way to slow or stop ICE incursions into American cities in 2025

Israel accused of detaining Greta Thunberg in infested cell and making her hold flags
Activist tells Swedish officials she has been subjected to harsh treatment, including insufficient food and water
ββThey dragged little Greta [Thunberg] by her hair before our eyes, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did everything imaginable to her, as a warning to others,β the Turkish activist ErsinΓelik, a participant in the Sumud flotilla, told Anadolu news agency.β+

The reification of βcartelsβ long predates Trump. Easier for prosecutors to paint drug smugglers as members of dangerous organizations rather than nodes in a complex network. But his innovation is trying to complain weβre at war with the cartels, even though they basically never attack the US.

Trump memo says US in βnon-international armed conflictβ with cartels
Memo reported by US media shows Trump justification for strikes on alleged drug smugglers experts say likely illegal.
Drug βcartelsβ are not cartels at all. They do not collude to set prices. Theyβre usually barely organizations. More loose networks of collaborators in a complex supply chain. The whole thing is ridiculous, but Trump is basically creating an enemy out of thin air. www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/202...

Statement from the Global Sumud Flotilla:

Student visas crackdown and new levies to cause βΒ£1.8bn lossβ to UK economy
The Government has proposed a 6 per cent tax on international student tuition fees and a reduction in graduate visas
I am genuinely baffled and distressed as to why the UK government is intent on destroying UK's genuinely world-leading universities, who bring Β£265 billion into the economy and support more than 250,000 jobs.
This tax will kill us.

Putin, an autocrat, passed a Foreign Agents law in 2012.
Orban, an autocrat, uses investigations, tax audits, regulations, and new laws to harass civil organizations in name of sovereignty.
Both sought to intimidate civil society, so that no independent or opposing voices remained.

WOW. The lead plaintiff is a Latino man who's been here legally for 24 years. He was grabbed off the street by plainclothes federal agents who didn't even ASK about his status.
He was detained overnight and only released once a supervisor realized he had been illegally arrested.
