No excuse for not having read Brian Ladd's _The Ghosts of Berlin_ long since. Urban historian Alan Lessoff recommended it as an exemplar of urban histoy. He is so right. What a spectacular book. Perhaps, even worthy of the overused "brilliant" and "fantastic." Good covers, too.

Haven’t been to AGA but the VAG is…not good. Cultural institutions at the municipal level in the Lower Mainland is horrendous. Great at the community level, terrible further up.

This thread raises a question for me. I’m familiar but certainly not an expert such as yourself. Would each of these points apply to Kosovo? I also recognize that each case is unique and, ultimately, states can choose to recognize or not based on any number of real or arbitrary understandings.
