Its very approachable to someone with a surface level understanding of the topic. Might be the intro article to atproto I’ll share with friends in the future. Kudos! 👍

I’m an amateur cyclist, sailor and dungeon master. Working on the friendly approach to developer productivity. https://dvergmal.dev

30.06.2025 20:13 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A bit of over two months in a product focused software startup has done wonders to revitalize my interest in working in tech.
I’m considering picking up writing about engineering but what sort of topics are people reading outside the LLM hype?
Finnish is ”A hand Plane for Everything” or jokapaikanhöylä
11.03.2025 12:09 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I forgot to post about this but I scratched together some in-browser character sheets for #dungeonworld.
These work pretty decently for a low effort one-off sessions.
The #atproto #developers feed is suddenly full of videos of people applying for @skylight.social beta. 😅 I don’t hate it, but I’m wondering if there are more developer related feeds I should subscribe to?
21.01.2025 09:43 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I think the time is ripe for a social network where users have to authenticate to prove they’re human. A system based on identity brings accountability and makes it harder for hostile actors to influence. The EU seems like the best location to kick off something like this but can we deliver?
17.01.2025 09:14 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Is this open source by chance and do you need help? 👀
16.01.2025 11:38 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This is really cool, thanks!
09.01.2025 16:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Cheers. Seems like a good resource!
09.01.2025 04:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Cheers for this but what I’m thinking for is more in line of actual services making use of the protocol. Lexicons are rather records than applications.
09.01.2025 04:04 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0For real. I miss some features from Facebook in the form of groups and events that I’d love to be able to build here. Audiences would be a huge addition but don’t know how viable they are in concept.
08.01.2025 17:32 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0One thing I’d like to see one day is a viable competitor to event organization for Facebook (back in the day). Getting people together for events leaves my whatsapp snd telegram riddled with small groups and Fb used to work well for this.
On #atproto would need for private audiences.
I’m hoping we’ll see something like this sooner rather than later.

08.01.2025 17:18 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0What kind of apps currently exist on atproto? Is there a curatef list or a showroom somewhere? What are you building? #atdev #atproto
08.01.2025 17:00 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 4 📌 0That’s my understanding as well.
I think its somewhat restricting credible application development on the protocol. There are massive benefits to having control over data-access.
You could use atproto as a database that references data elsewhere but that violates the concept a bit. #atdev
Follow up if everything is discoverable, doesn’t it somewhat devalue PDS if your data is open for scraping?
05.01.2025 10:36 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0#atproto #developers question: If I develop an application based on the protocol, is there a way for me to prevent the data from being discoverable or is everything fundamentally discoverable by anyone?
I’m wondering the plausibility of only publishing content to a users followers/following.
Pretty magical colors here in Saariselkä at noon. Next sunrise in a week. #lapland #kaamos
30.12.2024 11:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Thanks! I’ll have a look. I considered using @whtwnd.com as an option, but wanted to use this as an opportunity to learn some more about the protocol as well so building my own shitty copy seems tempting.
13.12.2024 19:56 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Is an extension possible, or should I create bluesky posts separately and refer to them from my own data models if I want to keep a reference. 🤔
13.12.2024 19:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Probably need to force a little switch in thinking here. I’d like to build data-types that extend the formats used by Bluesky. Create a post on #atproto that’s visible on bluesky and show some extra info on another platform? #developers
13.12.2024 19:22 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I feel like I’m probably asking a dumb question here but I figured I might as well. 😅
13.12.2024 18:42 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I’m experimenting with using #atproto as the backend for my technology blog at dvergmal.dev is it a realistic dream to also do long form markdown texts on atproto? I guess I’d need to setup a PDS and some custom schema + repository for this as well as a database or does the pds also provide the db?
