09.08.2025 02:25 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The Super Shinobi clean artwork (The Revenge of Shinobi in the west) used on the cover of the Japanese Sega Mega Drive release. Image depicts a ninja holding a katana while looking menacingly with a dark background. His eyes are heavily borrowed from the likeness of Sonny Chiba and where changed in the later versions of the game to avoid any rights infringement.
The artwork of The Super #Shinobi (The Revenge of Shinobi in the west) used on the cover of the Japanese #Sega #MegaDrive release. A simple and iconic piece where the Sonny Chiba eyes really stand out. Cleaned and retouched, no upscale applied. No clue on the artist.

Not as exciting as having actual games working, but I've made a little more progress in my efforts to do LLE of the LaserActive hardware (what Nemesis released does HLE for all the hardware in the main unit). I've got IR input working, so you can now enter test mode

This is the service/menu screen for my game Lufthoheit.
The 68k processor is software scaling the image in the X direction and the VDP helps to stretch the image vertically. The 68k processor is doing the rotation on the asteroids also .
In-game version of the spaceship
same ship as seen in one of the cutscenes
Kouichirou Yonemura, the designer of the main spaceship in the Mega-CD version of Silpheed, wanted to revise its design to give it more volume when viewed from the back. When he asked how many polygons the ship was made up of in the game, he was told ‘9’.

Note that Masato Nishimura wasn't part of the team that went to the US to work on Sonic 2, 3 and S&K, but he did work on Sonic CD and Chaotix.

It seems there was another attempt at a 3D Sonic game on Mega Drive in addition to the SVP ver. of Sonic 3? Masato Nishimura said in 2012 that when he tested displaying polygons at 30 fps or more on a stock MD for a special stage of a scrapped Sonic project, only about 8 polygons could be displayed.

It was basically FMV games (both the QTE type and "FMV as backgrounds" type) but with laserdisc quality lol.

Wait, extra VDP or extra SH-2? Those are two different things (and I would be surprised if either VDP was not part of the original hardware specs).
16.05.2025 00:47 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0We used the same Saturn devkits at Core. One per team. Testers had the hardware address checker.
Earlier kits were the Sofia boxes from Japan. We had a protoype the size of a beer fridge with only one SH2. Alas, someone fried the mainboard by introducing it to 240V. It probably ended up in a skip.
