As someone said, there is no crime here; but there is crime all around this. Something like this could only happen where cruelty and dehumanization are the norm, in a system bereft of human decency.

When people read current writing on immigration a few decades from now, it'll hit the same as a reading the way people wrote about "the Jewish problem" in the 1930s. Just loads of well-educated and seemingly normal people accepting a monstrous normative frame as though it's natural.

Trump's big, ugly budget megabill gives ICE more agents than the FBI, more jails than the federal Bureau of Prisons, and a larger budget than most countries' militaries.

It does this by stripping food away from children, the disabled, and the working poor.
