I miss being in a writer’s room. I came really close to opening one of my own a few weeks ago. But like Sisyphus before me, I got right to the edge of the cliff, before my rock rolled all the way back down to the bottom.

I got lucky and have some work and a number of my friends are still working but I don’t think I know anyone below supervising producer that has a job right now. It’s grim out there and I don’t know how to make it any better.

WGA members. If you’re involved with this somehow, it will bite you in the ass. I’m about to get a list of the people involved and I plan on reporting all of them. (Hopefully the scammers are just using legit writers names and it’s not the writer themselves scamming other writers.)

Self-published novelists out there, please don’t fall for this, this isn’t how any of this works.

And that the writer can find a WGA screenwriter on their own to help write the script or they have a list of “approved” writers they can use. The kicker is the novelist needs to pay WGA rates for the script to be written (over 65k). And there’s also a ticking clock on the whole deal.

SCAM ALERT: Seems like there’s a scam going around where a New York agent contacts a self-published writer and tells them that somebody wants to turn their book into a movie but they need a script first.

The WGA earnings report is out and employment is down roughly 30% since the strikes (and related industry contraction). Not great. To say the least.
