I manage a web site that uses WordPress. I created it about 10 years ago. I rarely touch it, just occasionally updating plugins. Spent this weekend doing maintenance and noticed that the Wordpress block editor has got so much better. Feels so satisfying to remove plugins as native editor now […]

When did spiders get so big? I go my front door and huge webs like something from Tomb raider.
I think they are adapting to catch larger mammals - I bet cats will be disappearing!!

I’m on record as saying I *despise* time travel; nothing good ever comes of it. But I’m making _one_ exception. NoBait is a browser extension that receives the “news of the week” via tachyon backscatter from next week, and filters out any of today’s news articles that turned out in hindsight to […]

Things might make more sense when you remember that humans are just weird fish that followed a very unique evolutionary path.

So instead of saying "I have problems sticking to a budget," say "I'm a highly derived lobe-finned fish which means it's hard to stick to a budget"

I watched Zack Polanski's leader speech at the Green Party conference. Some good moments - nothing especially rousing, but refreshing nonetheless compared to Labour /Tory/Reform speeches

@fantpmas that looks really well made. Good job. How long do you think it would take to fill one bay? Do you intend to let it sit whilst using the next bay, or would you frequently turn it?

Is anyone here a tree surgeon in #Bristol?
Our community orchard has lots of buddleia branches we want chipping. Material can stay on site, just need someone with a decent wood chipper.

I shouldn't need to say this, but I guess it's how social media works: just because someone doesn't post about something doesn't mean they don't care about it. If I posted to express my sadness at every atrocity, racist incident, horrific murder or terrorist attack that happened in the world I'd […]

Sepia real photographic postcard showing a view of the River Avon at Bristol.

Published by Harvey Barton & Son Ltd, Bristol, No 62, c.1910.

Postally unused.

Good condition, with minimal corner bumps and light album marks, but two large circular areas where the emulsion has gone matt.

Day 3: Octavia Butler.

Incredibly dark, graphic, and disturbing near-future science fiction, which has proved absolutely prophetic. In the 1990's she was writing about a charismatic Conservative Christian and white nationalist president elected in 2024, and the horrors his paramilitary […]

I enjoyed the BBC series Ghosts. The range of time the ghosts cover give very different perspectives on things and therefore contrasts our current understanding. E.g. how different times thought about fashion, gender, national borders.

Had a lovely afternoon at the Totterdown community orchard doing apple pressing. Had lots of apples from our tree plus loads in the orchard.
Good turnout of locals as well. Now have bottles of tasty apple juice.
