She also took exception to the narrative that the decision in Pollockβs case was based on the cost of the drug, roughly $800,000 a year, rather than its ability to provide Pollock with an improved quality of life.
The Federal government gives BC $194 million annually to treat rare diseases.
Medications are not just for curing diseases but to alleviate suffering and improve quality of life.
If the drug was $1 the committee would never have been involved.

Measles, like COVID is a contagious airborne virus.
Handwashing is ineffective for prevention but what is effective includes vaccination, use of masks especially N95 masks, cleaning the air in schools and a public awareness campaign.

What makes a good public health leader?
Canada is searching for a new Chief Public Health Officer. Leadership matters, especially in a crisis.
What makes a good health leader? As soothing as "Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe" may sound, without action, itβs just another empty slogan. Canadians need someone who takes timely, decisive actions to truly protect us. Now, and when the next pandemic strikes.

COVID-19 respiratory surveillance New South Wales Australia December 2024 and the preceding year. COVID-19 shows an ululating wave pattern in that period of around three waves with the fourth just starting. Influenza shows a single spike. Influenza wave has a larger amplitude however COVID-19 PCR testing is severely restricted.

Bottom graph, flu.
No matter how hard you stare at it, C19 graph is just refusing to morph into a tidy spike like flu.
