If you would stop being condescending for two minutes, you might learn something. Some democrats are doing great work, but some are also profiting from the reforms.

If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. The purpose of these reforms is to maintain the profit structure for ICE. There's tons of money to be made in the facilities, the surveillance contracts, and the gear they sell. This sanitises operations and increases the money flow.

I agree with those changes. What's being proposed right now needs to be countered with these rather than shutting people out of social media.

What did I just say? I'm fine with reframing, but they have to show some commitment to the end goal. Otherwise, they're hijacking a movement and subverting it to serve the system. The problem here is that you can't approach these things from a "protect the children" stance because age is not the factor here, and bad pillars of understanding result in bad policy. This solidifies the control big tech has over everyone's minds, not free us from it.

Yeah. I agree. But I don't think age is the deciding factor there. And I certainly don't think it will get better if we limit information, and the only information that is allowed to be spread is filtered through the tech oligarchy and governments.

I wouldn't be so sure. The pendulum is swinging. Also, I lived in the Netherlands for 12 years until recently. Age is not as much of a factor there as the rural-urban divide and education.

I don't think that's fair. For a lot of people, there's a thing where if you can't say it, why should anyone trust that you'll do it? It gives politicians leeway to riggle out of the more radical promises they implied.

Palantir wants this. The younger generations are far more progressive, and they want them to be uninformed. It's the boomers who need media literacy.

In my experience, "abolish ICE" is not that hard once you explain to people that it's only been around since 2003 and was an outgrowth of the Iraq war.

I agree in spirit, but candidates also have to earn your vote, and Americans should make that clear. The democrats rely on people having no other option to prop up bad candidates and move to the right every time. Having people who loudly eschew "lesser of two evils" is pretty important.

Yeah, but I like specialisation. I go to multiple sources that specialise in one thing really well for different sectors of my reading interest (and turn them into a Bsky feed for ease of access). I agree: not everyone has the bandwidth for that, and I am an unreasonably dedicated news junkie.

New Yorker has been serving me well for most commentary and culture. @propublica.org , @newrepublic.com , and @texastribune.org are excellent for news, while @404media.co and @wired.com are great for tech stuff. I usually get news from multiple sources. Most are free of subscriptions.
