By all means! I thought that all those mentions of worms were just run-of-the-mill self-deprecation on behalf of the protagonist of those songs, but if there is an entire theology behind it, all the better!

(It would be funny if some of the shape note people I interact with on Tumblr would be the same ones I interact with here, without knowing it.)

Yes, someone on Tumblr yesterday made a meme for it, inspired by my post. Screenshot attached.

Having read your articles, I'm not surprised that you know this much about Watts.

Yes! I'm not sure why that was unexpected, but it was unexpected.

At this singing for the first time I stopped and laughed in the middle of a song. The culprit was the words "fellow worms".

It's not that I'm not used to occurrences of "worm" in shape note lyrics. But for some reason "fellow worms" was especially funny.

I also like how, if you zoom in on the painting on the wall, it shows Jesus partying so hard that there is a person passed out in his lap.

At the Baylor University Sacred Harp singing today. With many Baylor students here, it is definitely the youngest skewing singing I've been to. Starting out with a lecture.

Heard a non-native English speaker on the radio today pronounce "infrastructure" like "infrastruggle".

Thinking about the endless, ongoing AWS permissions problems I'm facing at work: yes, that's what I will call cloud infrastructure from now on.

This is from a Texas convention! It warms my bitter dark heart.
Also, an oft-quoted song for these times.

Then I tried Claude. On the first try it wrote a Terraform module for me using a different approach than Gemini. It turned out mostly correct, requiring only one small tweak on my part!

At first I asked Gemini for help. Some of its recommendations enabled me to make incremental progress, but the more I got into the weeds, the more its advice became internally inconsistent and plain wrong.

As a Terraform newbie, I was struggling with a task of writing Terraform modules to create an EC2 instance and deploy a very simple Python web application on it. What was giving me the greatest trouble was that no matter what I tried, Terraform was not preserving the indentations in the Python file.

"The 1991 edition had another Neely Bruce song in the same spot. They took it out and replaced with this one. And now we have sung his new song more times than the old one."

Keep in mind, this group has existed for 40 years. 2/2

Today was our local Sacred Harp group first singing of the year, and the first singing from the 2025 edition - due to the holiday break. I got to lead the awesome 484t Millbrook before anyone else snatched it up. At the end our organizer said: 1/2

Texas solar power surpassed coal in 2025 for the first year ever. Here's why. In 2025 β€” for the first year ever β€” solar arrays provided more electricity to Texas’ main power grid than coal-fired power plants.

This is a watershed moment for Texas - for the first time ever, solar supplied more electricity than coal in 2025.

I will say it again: At this rate, TX will likely decarbonize its electricity sector faster than CA.

TX clean electricity is growing at 13%,m more than twice that of CA's at 6%.

Trying to use Terraform to launch an EC2 instance with a Streamlit app on it, as a learning exercise. It's taking me for a wild ride.

But if I am ever to take an AWS Certified Developer exam, this is the way I want to learn it - hands on, as opposed to cramming exam questions.

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches
