Genuinely, as someone who plays several live service games I always have a checklist that's like
- Ask yourself if you're having fun
- Never have a "forever game", play or read or do other stuff alongside it
- Don't set paid subs to auto-renew
- Think about what you want, not what the game wants

That's the biggest thing I'm dreading as well. It's kinda an impossible task? Almost every VN trailer is either pure gameplay, which can come across as uninteresting, or pure CG, which ends up not actually reflecting the content of the game itself.

That's fair! Same reason I'm sticking with windows for now LOL. But I imagine the steam machine would be pretty easy to get windows onto if you wanted to. Valve allowed for custom boot options with the steam deck, so I doubt the machine would be any different.

Oh interesting. That's really odd to me cuz I could've sworn Gamemaker could export to Linux. Surprising that they dont have more native options.

I suppose there is the possibility of running through wine but that might be. Messy.

Is Gamemaker not available on Linux through SteamOS's Desktop Mode? Would save the hassle of setting up Windows.

Then again, you'd have to acclimatise yourself to Linux over Windows so I guess it's sorta swings and roundabouts.
