Apparently conservatives are mad about the Cynthia Erivo production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Surely it is because it is a heretical text which seats the meaning of the Christ narrative entirely in the Passion and the Arma Christi rather than the Resurrection, and for no other reasons.

There's SO MUCH good art out there, we can let go of any art that makes us feel icky for any reason up to and including "artist abused their kid(s)", "artist allowed other(s) to abuse their kid(s)", "artist abused other adults", "artist abuses other adults by proxy by being a famous bigot" etc.

There are a LOT of books and movies in the world, and plenty enough of them were made by people who aren’t currently known to be assholes.

(Some of them probably are assholes but we don’t know about it yet.)

A weird and disappointing thing I have seen a bunch of people doing recently is asking if there’s something wrong about not being able to “separate art from the artist” and feeling disgusted by media they used to enjoy.

A semi-regular reminder:

"Death of the author" = analysis tool that emphasises the importance of the audience's interpretation of art once it is out of the creator's hand;

"Separate the art from the artist" = "I want to keep enjoying my nostalgia even though this author is a bigoted heinous loser"
